Eco-Etch Pro is the preferred eco-friendly and user friendly etching alternative for interior or exterior surface preparation applications.

Clean and etch concrete, masonry, cinder block, brick, mortar joints and grout to properly prepare substrates for optimum penetration and adhesion of stains, paints, industrial coatings, and sealers. Eco-Etch Pro also removes dirt, clay, mortar deposits, rust and efflorescence. A one step etch and clean solution that brings back a new look surface. Highly recommended for use with SoyCrete Concrete Stain for optimum porosity and desirable results.

Eco-Etch Pro begins to work immediately upon contact without toxic hazards or dangerous skin burns associated with traditional acid formulas. Eco-Etch Pro should be used in full strength or diluted up to 2:1 (makes up to 3 gallons) with water for lighter cleaning and etching requirements. One gallon will cover up to 250 square feet. Dwell time will vary from 1 to 15 minutes which is also affected by the dilution ratio, porosity, and temperature. Rinsing thoroughly with water neutralizes the etching action.

APPLICATION:

Ensure that all adjacent surfaces not to be etched are appropriately protected. Alll areas to be etched must be clean, dry and free of sealers, coatings, oils, grease, or other foreign contaminants.

Test Area: Always prepare a test patch prior to full application. This will indicate the optimum dwell time, dilution and substrate compatiblity required for successful project completion. Use in concentrate form for more aggressive etching or to minimize contact time. Dilute up to 2 parts water to 1 part concentrate depending on level of cleaning and etching desired. The longer the contact time, the more penetration of etch. Etching will continue for as long as the material remains wet on the surface and prior to neutralizing.

Apply by pouring material directly to the surface or by garden-type pump sprayer. Spread out material if necessary to ensure uniform coverage by using brooms or brushes. Work in controllable areas depending on temperature and environmental conditions to avoid premature drying of material. Best results are achieved at temperatures above 40°F and below 95°F. Warmer temperatures will accelerate drying that may require working in smaller areas or constant re-applications to keep the material wet during the determined contact time. Do not allow material to dry before rinsing.

Etching will begin immediately as witnessed by a mild foaming action. If foaming is not present, a barrier or incompatibility exists between the material and the substrate. Such barriers must be removed prior to proceeding. Allow 1-15 minutes contact time as determined by your test patch. Add mottling effects by varying contact times.

Neutralizing/Cleaning: For small areas, simply rinse area thoroughly with clean water, then wipe clean with dry lint free cloth. For larger surfaces, rinse liberally with clean water applied by garden-type pump sprayer or hose. Use a hard bristle brush or floor buffer with medium to coarse stripping pad. Extract all residue with a wet/dry vacuum. Repeat rinse if necessary to ensure all residue is removed. Outdoor applications may be best performed by rinsing thoroughly with a pressure washer.

Staining/Coating/Sealing: As with any etching compound, it is advisable to check the pH of the substrate before applying a coating material to ensure that it is compatible with the new coating system being applied. Perform a final substrate test for adequate porosity prior to coating application. Spray areas lightly with water. If water absorbs within seconds, you have achieved good porosity. If water absorbs slowly or beads, re-evaluate your test procedure and reapply in the deficient area and repeat process. After sufficient drying time, ensure the surface is completely dry and dust free prior to coating installation in accordance with good painting practices and the coating manufacturer’s instructions.

Follow all safety precautions on the product label. Keep away from children.
