Our Organic Serenity mattress is our most popular model. Made with three 3-inch layers of natural latex, it measures a little less than 10 inches high with its quilted casing, and provides a supremely comfortable feel. The casing closes with a strong brass zipper, and can be removed for eco-dry-cleaning. Its soft on top and supportive underneath, and thats really what most people are looking for. The Organic Serenity mattress can be made to feel very firm, very soft, or any range in between.

How we build the Organic Serenity mattress

If you want a firm mattress, we will make yours with one layer of Firm Dunlop (on the bottom) and two layers of Medium Dunlop natural latex rubber. If you want it very firm, we will make it of three layers of Firm Dunlop natural latex.

If you want a softer mattress, we can build it with one layer of Medium and two layers of Soft Dunlop natural latex rubber. If you want the softest possible feel, we will use natural Talalay, a much softer material. Alternatively, we can use Dunlop for the bottom and middle layers, and Talalay for the top.

For a Queen, King, or California King, we can customize each side to your liking. All you need to do is to tell us how firm you want each side, and well do the rest.

Dunlop or Talalay Latex Mattress?

Theres a lot of confusion about what Dunlop and Talalay mean. They are neither types of latex nor types of rubber trees, but types of processing. Dunlop is a process thats been around since 1929 and involves the traditional manufacturing method. Talalay is the name of a newer process. Heres how they differ.

Dunlop

When Dunlop latex is made, the serum is frothed in a centrifuge, poured into a mold, covered and baked at a low temperature. The natural sediments in the latex settle to the bottom of the mold, which yields a layer that is slightly firmer on the bottom side.

Talalay

In the Talalay process, after the latex is poured, the mold is sealed and air is vacuumed out. Then the mold is flash-frozen to stabilize the material. This produces a more consistent cell structure, as some of the weaker air bubbles are vacuumed out. Because of the added steps, Talalay latex is more expensive than Dunlop.

Which is better?

Having worked with both Dunlop and Talalay latex, we can say with confidence that neither is superior to the other. What matters more is how it is handled out of the mold, how it is packaged, shipped, and ultimately, what is in the end product.

What other variables are there? Some companies add fillers such as clay to make the latex go further. (If you find a Queen size natural latex mattress for $1000 or less, there are fillers.) And some companies boast perimeter support, known in the industry as racetracking. That means they use cheaper materials, usually polyurethane foam, around the outside of the latex. This does make the edge of the bed stiffer for sitting on. It also reduces the sleeping surface by up to 20%.

We think its a shame that companies selling Natural Talalay say its superior and more pure than Natural Dunlop, and vice versa. Both materials make a great mattress and are extremely pure relative to most commercial mattresses. (One company sold Dunlop latex one month, speaking negatively about Talalay, and the next month reversed their position.)

While it is true that Talalay has a wider range of ILDs, or firmness grades, in our experience Dunlop is heavier and more durable. If you like a very soft mattress, you will want Talalay. (For example, a layer of Soft Talalay is softer than a layer of Soft Dunlop.) If you have children who mistake their mattress for a trampoline, you will want Dunlop. That is why we carry both. We are also happy to combine the two in configuring a Savvy Rest.

Limited 20-Year Warranty

Savvy Rest, Inc. guarantees that your mattress will be replaced or repaired at our option without cost to you, should it be deemed defective because of faulty workmanship or structural defects during the twenty (20) years of the warranty, excluding the specific limitations contained herein.

This warranty covers any deterioration in the cell structure of the latex that causes the mattress to have a visible indentation greater than one and one half inch, not associated with a sag in the foundation, box springs, or platform. It also covers any physical flaw in the mattress that causes the material to split or crack despite proper usage and handling.

This warranty does not cover aberrations in the natural latex that fall under the category of natural variances, i.e., areas of discoloration in the latex, horizontal tears or cracks less than three inches in length, lateral tears or cracks that penetrate less than the full thickness of the latex sheet as well as evidence of black and/or white debris that is deemed to be residue of the natural latex baking process. Furthermore, if the latex core of a Savvy Rest mattress has been exposed to direct sunlight, such exposure will void this warranty.

During the first ten (10) years of this warranty, we will not charge you to repair or replace your mattress if it is deemed defective. During years 11 through 20 of this warranty we will, at our option, repair the mattress at a handling cost to you, or replace the mattress at a prorated charge to you plus transportation costs. If we replace the mattress, the prorated replacement charge you pay will depend on when the mattress is replaced.

  • If the mattress is replaced during the eleventh year of this warranty, the prorated replacement charge you pay will be fifty (50) percent of the original purchase price.
  • If the mattress is replaced after the eleventh year but before this warranty expires, the prorated charge you pay will increase by five (5) percent for each subsequent year of the prorated period (i.e., 55% of the original purchase price if replaced during year twelve; 60% of the original purchase price if replaced during year thirteen, etc.)

This warranty is valid only to the original purchaser of the product. If Savvy Rest deems the mattress not defective, all transportation costs are the responsibility of the purchaser and are additional to any prorated charges.

You must provide proof of purchase to Savvy Rest for any warranty claim. You may contact Savvy Rest, Inc. Customer Service Department by calling toll-free 1-866-856-4044 or writing to Savvy Rest at 4414 Ivy Commons, Charlottesville, VA 22903.

90-Day Latex Exchange Policy

Most of the time, we are able to help you select the perfect configuration for your Savvy Rest mattress. That’s what our savvy is about. Your mattress is a long-term investment in your comfort and health, however, so we want to make sure you are comfortable for years—not minutes. This is one of the advantages of ordering a Savvy Rest.

You have 90 days from the date you receive your Savvy Rest mattress to be sure you’re happy with its firmness or softness. If you decide after a few nights or a few weeks that you’d like a layer to be softer or firmer than your original choice, just contact us.

For 90 days customers can exchange layers of latex, and the only charge you incur is the shipping charge both ways. All you have to do is tell us what new layer you would like to try. Savvy Rest will ship out the new layer with a return-shipping label packed in the box. Once you receive it, go ahead and set up your mattress with the new configuration. You can try out the new layer for a few days and then pack up the layer you would like to return in the same box the new piece came in. Stick the return shipping label on the box and call the number provided for a pick-up. Round trip shipping costs apply. We will tell you the cost when you call to request an exchange.

The latex exchange policy is not a return policy. We do not accept returned mattresses or pillows. Savvy Rest’s latex exchange policy allows you to be confident you are receiving the finest in customized fit and customer service.

"Vickie and I have had our Savvy Rest mattress almost two weeks. Each night it's a great feeling getting into our bed knowing your whole body is going to be supported. Our past bed was a water bed, which we had for 20 years. Every other month we had to add water to keep the same firmness and worry about leaks. The new bed was very easy to put together. The heavy duty zipper also showed the quality of the product. Thank you - Bill and Vickie"

"I've had the bed for two nights now and I think it's safe to say it was close to a religious experience. Amazing. Thanks again for everything."
